North Star Mining Museum

Located just outside of downtown, the North Star Mining Museum provides a different perspective on the region's mining history. The museum is housed in the historic North Star Powerhouse, built in 1895. Its most striking feature is the enormous, 30-foot-diameter Pelton wheel, a massive water-driven turbine that once powered the air compressors for the mine. This impressive piece of engineering history is a testament to the ingenuity of the Gold Rush era.
