EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook rises 300 feet above Culver City via 282 irregular recycled-concrete steps, a short climb that delivers one of the most expansive views in Los Angeles. From the top, the city unfolds in every direction: the triangular flatiron of downtown Culver City below, Sony Pictures Studios, the Getty Center, the Hollywood Sign, and downtown LA framed by the San Gabriel Mountains. A switchback trail offers a more gradual alternative. Managed by California State Parks, free to enter. Early morning before the heat builds is the right time to go.
OPERATOR STORY
Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook State Park is a 57-acre California State Parks property sitting southeast of downtown Culver City, protecting one of the last open hillsides in the urban core of Los Angeles. The park reopened in 2009 after a restoration that replaced its trail infrastructure with 282 steps of recycled concrete found on-site, integrating the staircase into a native habitat restoration effort. Part of the larger Park to Playa Trail connecting the Baldwin Hills parklands to the beach.
