EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

The studio is preserved as an active arts center, with Beatrice Wood's signature luster-glazed vessels, personal archives, and rotating exhibitions. Admission is by donation, the building is tucked into the chaparral above town, and it has none of the polish of a typical gallery visit. Just the work and the place where it was made.

OPERATOR STORY

Beatrice Wood was a Dada movement participant and friend of Marcel Duchamp, and one of the most significant American studio ceramicists of the 20th century, spending more than six decades in Ojai drawn by its light and community of artists. She worked and taught at her hilltop studio in the Ojai foothills until her death in 1998 at age 105. Her estate established the center to preserve her studio, archives, and work as an active arts space.
