EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

Bishop Peak is the tallest of the Nine Sisters, the chain of volcanic morros that defines San Luis Obispo's skyline. The trail rises 950 feet over 3.5 miles round trip from the Highland Drive trailhead, climbing through oak woodland and exposed switchbacks to a rocky summit with 360-degree views over downtown SLO, the rolling hills of Edna Valley, and glimpses of Morro Rock on clear days. Free, no permit required, open dawn to dusk.

OPERATOR STORY

Bishop Peak is the centerpiece of the Bishop Peak Natural Reserve, maintained by the City of San Luis Obispo as part of its open space network. The city has developed and maintained the trail system over decades as a public recreational resource, and the peak remains the most-hiked summit in San Luis Obispo County.
