EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
The sourdoughs, laminated pastries, and breakfast bowls draw a line of regulars most mornings. Bell Street itself is worth exploring on foot: the seven-block historic main drag runs through a former stagecoach stop established in 1876, lined with 19th-century storefronts that now house tasting rooms, antique shops, and galleries. The 1880 Union Hotel at the far end is one of the oldest continuously operating buildings in California. Open Thursday through Sunday from 7am.
OPERATOR STORY
Bob's Well Bread opened in 2013 in a historic building on Bell Street, founded by a former Los Angeles music producer who left the industry to bake bread in Los Alamos. The bakery became a destination in its own right, with hand-crafted sourdoughs, laminated pastries, and breakfast bowls made from local ingredients sourced within an hour's drive wherever possible. It is widely credited with igniting the modern food scene that made Los Alamos a destination.
