EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
Cabrillo National Monument sits at the dramatic tip of the Point Loma peninsula, a 160-acre park protecting the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, built in 1855, along with tide pools teeming with sea stars, anemones, and hermit crabs. The views sweep from downtown San Diego and Coronado across the bay to the Coronado Islands in Mexico. This is where Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo made the first European landfall on the Pacific Coast in 1542.
OPERATOR STORY
Cabrillo National Monument commemorates the 1542 landing of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, the first European explorer to set foot on the West Coast of what is now the United States. Managed by the National Park Service, the monument sits at the tip of the Point Loma peninsula and encompasses the historic Old Point Loma Lighthouse (1855), sweeping views of San Diego Bay and the Pacific, and one of the best tide pool areas in Southern California.
