EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
Capitola Beach sits at the base of the village, a compact crescent of sand where the wharf extends into calm water and the Venetian Court apartments along the Esplanade stand in their signature pastels. At low tide the sand is wide, pelicans patrol the break, and harbor seals occasionally haul out on the rocks to the south. The whole scene has the quality of a California beach town that time passed over gently. The walk north toward New Brighton extends the experience as far as you want to go.
OPERATOR STORY
Capitola Beach and the Esplanade are managed by the City of Capitola, which has maintained the village waterfront as public open space since Capitola's incorporation in 1949. The Esplanade runs the length of the beach in front of the Venetian Court — the pastel-painted apartment complex that has defined the visual identity of Capitola Village since the 1920s. The beach itself is small by California standards, which gives it an intimate, village-scale character that larger resort beaches lack.
