EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
Carmel Beach sits at the foot of Ocean Avenue where the village meets the bay, a wide arc of white sand framed by Point Lobos to the south and the Pebble Beach headlands to the north. The water is cold and the surf is real, with a favored break at the northern cove. Dogs run off-leash along the tideline, and the beach remains one of the few in California where driftwood fires are still permitted below the high tide line. The overall effect is of a beach that has stayed itself despite everything around it changing.
OPERATOR STORY
Carmel Beach is a public beach managed by the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea, maintained as a free, open-access resource and one of the most protected stretches of urban coastline in California.
