EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

Carmel Walks threads through the village's hidden courtyards, Comstock fairy-tale cottages, and storied lanes with a guide who has spent 40 years on the Monterey Peninsula. The two-hour tour departs from the Pine Inn courtyard on most mornings at 10am, covering the architectural and artistic legacy that defines Carmel: the storybook buildings Hugh Comstock built in the 1920s, the lanes poets and painters made their own, and the nooks the village keeps out of plain sight. Dogs welcome. Adults $40, advance booking recommended.

OPERATOR STORY

Carmel Walks was founded by Gale Wrausman and has been led since 2012 by a local historian and tour director who has lived on the Monterey Peninsula for over 40 years. The tour grew out of a commitment to showing visitors the Carmel that exists beyond Ocean Avenue: the hidden courtyards, the architectural details, the artistic and literary connections that most guests walk past without knowing what they are looking at. It remains a fully independent one-person operation rooted entirely in this place.
