EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
Truckee's Commercial Row is a two-block stretch of Donner Pass Road listed on the National Register of Historic Places, with most buildings dating from the 1870s through the 1910s. The Amtrak California Zephyr still stops at the original depot at the east end of the row, connecting Truckee to Sacramento and Chicago. The street today houses independent restaurants, galleries, outfitters, and coffee shops that have retained the bones of the original railroad town while adding the cultural life of a contemporary mountain community. The Truckee Donner Historical Society maintains a small museum in the historic district with materials on the railroad era and the Donner Party.
OPERATOR STORY
Truckee's Commercial Row has been the commercial heart of the town since the transcontinental railroad arrived in 1868, making it one of the oldest continuously active main streets in the Sierra Nevada. The buildings along the row date primarily from the 1870s through 1910s and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The original train depot at the east end still receives Amtrak California Zephyr service, connecting Truckee to Sacramento and San Francisco daily.
