EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

Derby Wine Estates occupies the Almond Growers Building on Riverside Avenue, a 1930s downtown landmark from the era when Paso Robles was the almond capital of California rather than a wine region. The tasting room is on the building's upper floors, with a tower that looks out over the wine country hills in every direction. The wines are estate-grown, with a range that runs from Bordeaux and Rhone varieties to Spanish and Italian varietals, all made from three distinct SLO County growing areas. Open daily from 11am.

OPERATOR STORY

Derby Wine Estates was founded as a grape-growing operation in 1998, with the family spending a decade farming before launching their own label. The winery moved into the historic Almond Growers Association building in downtown Paso Robles, a 1930s structure that served the regional almond industry for decades before the wine country era reshaped the valley's agricultural identity. The family continues to farm the vineyards directly and make the wines themselves.
