Eureka Boardwalk

Address

Eureka, CA 95501

Experience Type

Nature & Wildlife

EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

Humboldt Bay is the largest coastal estuary in California north of San Francisco, a critical stop on the Pacific Flyway and year-round habitat for harbor seals, pelicans, herons, egrets, and migratory shorebirds in extraordinary numbers. The Eureka boardwalk runs along the waterfront through Old Town with direct bay views and access to the water's edge. It's flat, easy, and best walked early before the harbor stirs. The historic fishing fleet still operates here, and the working waterfront character, boats, nets, marine industry, gives the walk a texture purely recreational harbors can't replicate.

OPERATOR STORY

Humboldt Bay is the largest coastal bay in California north of San Francisco, a protected estuary and one of the most significant wintering grounds for migratory shorebirds on the Pacific Flyway. The Eureka boardwalk runs along its edge through Old Town, with direct water access and views across to the Arcata bottoms. Harbor seals haul out year-round; brown pelicans, herons, egrets, and peregrine falcons are regular sightings along the working waterfront.
