EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens spans the full geography of the Mendocino Coast in miniature: manicured rhododendron and camellia beds give way to a dense coastal pine forest, then fern-lined canyons, then open bluffs above the Pacific where the trail ends at the water's edge with nothing between you and the horizon. The 47-acre property is home to over 180 bird species. Dogs are welcome on leash.
OPERATOR STORY
The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens is a nonprofit organization that has managed 47 acres of coastal land between Highway 1 and the Pacific since the 1960s. The property was saved from development through California Coastal Conservancy grants and is now permanently protected for public access. The Gardens maintains one of the most comprehensive rhododendron and heath collections in North America and runs a working kitchen garden that donates produce annually to the Fort Bragg Food Bank.
