EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

The Inn at Newport Ranch's 1.5 miles of private ocean bluff is most extraordinary at dawn, before the marine layer burns off and the light lies low across the headlands. The walk follows the property's coastal edge past blowholes that roar with incoming swells, through fog-wet meadow grass where the ranch's cattle graze at the cliff edge, and along ridgelines that look south toward Fort Bragg and north into empty coastline with no development in either direction. There are no other guests, no trail signage, no infrastructure — just the land as it is. The inn's guides can point out the route, but it needs no narration.

OPERATOR STORY

The Inn at Newport Ranch was assembled over 30 years by its owner, who purchased an 850-acre cattle ranch in 1986 and spent three decades adding surrounding land to create a 2,200-acre preserve. The bluff trails exist because the land does, a natural consequence of owning a mile and a half of unbroken coastline on the Mendocino coast.
