EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

The Ojai Valley Trail follows a former Southern Pacific rail line for nine miles between downtown Ojai and the Ventura coast, running through citrus orchards, riparian woodland, and open ranch land that preserve the valley's agricultural character. The smell of orange blossoms in season, the Topa Topa Mountains framing the northern ridge, and the absence of car traffic make it one of the most sensory stretches of trail in Southern California. Walk or bike toward Ventura for the coastal section, or toward downtown Ojai for the galleries and the Saturday farmers market.

OPERATOR STORY

The Ojai Valley Trail follows the route of a former Southern Pacific Railroad line, converted to a multi-use recreational path after rail service ended. Ventura County Transportation Commission manages the trail as a public asset through the Ojai Valley. At nine miles, it is one of the most intact rail-to-trail conversions in Southern California.
