EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

Pacific Heights holds one of the finest collections of Victorian and Edwardian residential architecture in the United States, most of it intact and occupied. The walk from Alta Plaza Park takes in grand mansions along Broadway, Jackson, and Washington Streets, with the park's terraced summit providing bay views and a natural midpoint. Queen Annes, Italianates, and Colonial Revivals stand shoulder to shoulder on streets that feel removed from the rest of the city. SF City Guides runs a free docent-led Pacific Heights Mansions tour departing from Alta Plaza most Saturdays, Sundays, and select Thursdays.

OPERATOR STORY

Alta Plaza Park is managed by the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department and has been a public open space in Pacific Heights since the late 19th century. The park was designed by John McLaren, the landscape architect responsible for Golden Gate Park, and its terraced layout follows the natural contours of the hill. It anchors the upper residential core of Pacific Heights and remains one of the most beloved neighborhood parks in the city.
