The taplist runs deep, from session ales to the kind of hop-forward IPAs that put this brewery on the map decades before craft beer went mainstream. An arcade corner keeps kids occupied while parents work through a flight of tasters, and the whole room runs loud, bright, and unmistakably beach town casual. Pizza by the slice and full pies both work here, but the beer is the real draw for anyone who knows the name.

OPERATOR STORY

A brother and sister opened the original Pizza Port as a pizza shop in Solana Beach in 1987, adding their own house brews five years later and helping spark San Diego County's craft beer movement. The family has run every location since, including this Carlsbad outpost that opened in 1997. The company remains independently and family owned, with no outside investment, even as its beers have gone on to win more national medals than almost any other brewery in the country.
