EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
The bakeries open early in Solvang, and the streets are quiet before the tour buses arrive. Aebleskiver and wienerbrød come fresh from storefronts that have been baking Danish pastry for generations, the windmills turn above half-timbered buildings, and the whole village is walkable in under two hours. Mission Santa Ines sits just outside the village center, one of the more serene California missions, easier to appreciate in the morning before the day heats up.
OPERATOR STORY
Solvang was founded in 1911 by Danish-American settlers from the American Midwest seeking to establish a Danish folk school and community. The town's Danish Colonial architecture, windmills, and bakeries are genuinely historic rather than fabricated — built and maintained by a community that has lived here for over a century.
