EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
Surfrider Beach is directly across the PCH. First Point offers some of the longest, most forgiving left-hand waves in Southern California. This is the exact break where Malibu surf culture was born in the 1950s, where Kathy Korner (the real Gidget) learned to surf, and where a generation of California beach culture was photographed into existence. Longboard and stand-up paddleboard rentals are available nearby; wetsuits can also be rented. First Point suits beginners and longboarders; Second and Third Point offer more challenge.
OPERATOR STORY
Surfrider Beach is the first beach in the world designated a World Surfing Reserve, recognized in 2010 for its cultural and ecological significance. First Point, closest of the three breaks to the pier, produces long, slow-peeling left-hand waves ideal for longboarding. This is where Malibu surf culture was born in the 1950s and where the images that defined California's beach identity were first made.
