S.Y. Kitchen was founded in 2013 by a Verona-born chef who arrived in California in 2002 and spent years in fine dining kitchens in Los Angeles before finding an old farmhouse restaurant in downtown Santa Ynez. The vision was a restaurant that would source directly from local fishermen, ranchers, and farmers and bring Italian technique to the valley's extraordinary ingredients. The sourcing is hands-on, with the chef visiting local farms to build the menu around what the valley produces rather than what a menu trend requires. It has become the dining anchor of the Santa Ynez Valley.
