EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
The Historic Tennis Club neighborhood is among the best-preserved concentrations of mid-century residential architecture in Palm Springs. The streets are quiet, the scale is human, and the contrast with the resort corridor on Palm Canyon Drive is pronounced. Flat rooflines, bougainvillea, and the low desert light give the blocks a quality that feels unchanged from the mid-century era.
OPERATOR STORY
The Historic Tennis Club neighborhood takes its name from the Palm Springs Tennis Club, founded in 1937 by Pearl McCallum McManus on land her family had owned since the early desert resort era. The neighborhood developed through the 1930s–1960s as a cluster of architect-designed residences favored by Hollywood figures seeking quieter surroundings near downtown. It remains one of the most intact concentrations of mid-century desert residential architecture in California.
