Thalia Street Beach sits at the bottom of a concrete staircase off South Coast Highway, a narrow sandy cove that opens onto one of Laguna's most consistent and well-regarded surf breaks. The water is clear and the bottom is sandy, the waves are rideable for a range of abilities, and the crowd is local enough that the lineup has a rhythm rather than a chaos. Thalia Surf Shop sits at the top of the stairs with boards and wetsuits available to rent, making this one of the most accessible surf-and-sand afternoons on the Orange County coast.
OPERATOR STORY
Thalia Street Beach is maintained by the City of Laguna Beach as one of a series of named public beaches accessed by staircases from South Coast Highway. The break at Thalia has been a Laguna surfing landmark for decades, named for the street above it and known for the local knowledge that concentrates around consistent reef and sand-bottom conditions. Thalia Surf Shop, the independently owned surf shop at the top of the stairs, has outfitted generations of surfers at this break since the 1980s.
