EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION
The Cannery sits on the Rhine Canal in Newport Beach's Lido Peninsula, a waterfront dining room in a converted 1920s fish cannery with views across the water to moored yachts. The menu is built on Pacific seafood, fresh fish preparations, a raw bar, and a selection of steaks, in a room that mixes original industrial bones with comfortable dining room warmth. The outdoor patio hangs over the water. It is the kind of place where Newport Beach locals eat. Open for lunch and dinner daily.
OPERATOR STORY
The Cannery occupies a fish-processing plant originally built in 1921 on the Rhine Canal in Newport Beach, one of the only surviving working waterfront structures of its era in Southern California. The building was saved from demolition in 1999 by a local resident who purchased it back from developers and handed its operation to the Salisbury family, the independently owned restaurant group also behind El Cholo. The Cannery has operated as a seafood restaurant and Newport Beach community institution since 1973.
