EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

The Truckee River Legacy Trail follows the river as it flows fast and cold out of Lake Tahoe through a granite canyon lined with lodgepole pine and aspen. The paved path runs in both directions from downtown Truckee, flat along the river, several miles in each direction. At 5,800 feet the river runs emerald-green and fast through a canyon of granite and pine. Osprey nest along this stretch and can often be seen hunting from overhanging snags in the early hours.

OPERATOR STORY

The Truckee River Legacy Trail is a paved multi-use path that follows the Truckee River through downtown and out into the surrounding Sierra Nevada landscape. The river corridor supports a rich riparian ecosystem at 5,800 feet elevation: osprey, mergansers, and river otters are regular sightings in the early morning hours.
