EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

The Ventura Pier — at nearly 2,000 feet, one of the longest wooden piers in California — was originally built in 1872 as a shipping dock. It extends over the surf break used by local longboarders with wide views of the Santa Barbara Channel and the Channel Islands on clear days. Ride a bike south along the beachfront path to Surfers Point at Seaside Park — a restored cobble beach widely cited as a national model for coastal restoration, where the shoreline was set back deliberately to let natural beach processes resume.

OPERATOR STORY

The Ventura Pier was originally built in 1872 as a commercial shipping pier and reconstructed multiple times to its current 1,958-foot length. It sits at the foot of California Street, managed by the City of Ventura. Surfers Point at Seaside Park, a short ride south, is one of Ventura’s most beloved local surf breaks and a nationally recognized example of managed coastal retreat — the shoreline was deliberately pulled back to restore natural beach processes.
