EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

Vesuvio sits at the corner of 6th and Junipero in Carmel-by-the-Sea, and is as close to a neighborhood restaurant as this village offers. The menu is built around a wood-burning pizza oven, house-made ravioli and pasta, and produce from Central Coast farms. The rotating carte changes with what's in season, and the downstairs bar draws a reliably local crowd. It is not a tourist destination in the way many Carmel restaurants are; it is a place the people who live here actually go.

OPERATOR STORY

Vesuvio is the Pepe family's story told through food. The founder emigrated from Naples, spent time in New Jersey, and settled in Carmel-by-the-Sea, where he built a small collection of restaurants rooted in southern Italian traditions. Vesuvio opened in the landmark former Piatti space at 6th and Junipero and has become one of the most genuinely local dining destinations in the village, with Carmel residents at the bar on a weeknight, not just weekend visitors.
