PROPERTY DESCRIPTION
Perched on a bluff 15 feet above the beach, the inn's rooms face south for sunrise views from private balconies and sunset vistas over the water. A staircase leads directly to a secluded stretch of beach below. The surrounding Lost Coast landscape offers black sand beaches, dramatic sea stacks, tidal pools teeming with sea life, seals on the rocks, and epic offshore fishing. The Paradise Royale trail network provides miles of mountain biking through the King Range. The Shelter Cove Golf Links, a 9-hole links course on the bluff, is a short walk away.OWNER STORY
The inn has been on this bluff above the Pacific since 1968, one of the first lodging properties in a hamlet that was only just beginning to open to visitors. Shelter Cove sits at the end of a single road that drops 23 miles through switchbacks over the King Range, and the remoteness has kept the place honest. Highway 1 was never built here because the terrain wouldn't allow it, and that same geography has shaped everything about how this inn operates. The current owners, a couple who took over in 2015, run it personally and without intermediaries, the way small coastal inns were always meant to work. There are no corporate systems behind the desk, no management company in a distant office. There is a staircase down to the beach and two people who know every room.
