PROPERTY DESCRIPTION
The Avalon Hotel sits one quiet block from the harbor on Whittley Avenue, its 1925 Craftsman bones visible in everything: hand-carved mahogany at the entry, etched slate and stained glass worked into the walls, hand-made tiles underfoot in rooms that look out over the bay. Downstairs, a koi pond anchors the garden courtyard where breakfast is served each morning beside a fountain. Up top, the rooftop deck opens to a 360-degree panorama of Avalon and the Pacific beyond. Fifteen rooms, each with local artwork and a different angle on the harbor. The hotel is small enough that the owners know your name before you leave.OWNER STORY
The Gosselins came to Avalon with the intention of staying, and they have. Running both this hotel and the Aurora Hotel up the hill, they have become fixtures in island life, not as investors but as participants. Rock served as chairman of the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce. The building they steward was constructed in 1925 with materials and craft that most hotels of its era have long since stripped out and replaced.
