Blue Iguana Inn was built by the owners in 1997, not as developers but as artists making a place that looked like them. Hand-painted murals, folk art, and ceramics sourced from Mexico, Europe, and Asia fill each bungalow with a distinctive sensibility. Three years later the owners opened the Emerald Iguana Inn across the street, adults-only and a different register of the same vision. Both properties operate under the Iguana Inns of Ojai name under the same direct ownership and care. Ojai has always attracted artists drawn to its particular quality of light, and the owners are among its most committed residents. The Blue Iguana is not styled to look like an artists' colony. It was made by one.
