PROPERTY DESCRIPTION
The oldest hotel on Catalina Island sits steps from Avalon's beach, its four Victorian stories rising from Sumner Avenue the way they have since 1891, built by the same crew that came over from completing the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. The lobby carries that history in its bones: narrow staircases, slanting floors, extended wings, and suites named for the silver-screen legends who actually slept here. Recent renovations added marble bathrooms and balconies while leaving the Victorian chandeliers and wood-beam ceilings exactly where they belong. The beach is a two-minute walk. Everything in Avalon is closer than that.OWNER STORY
The Amoroso family moved from Chicago to Avalon in 1985 and has been running the Glenmore since 1981, more than four decades of continuous stewardship of a building that, as the owner has said, owns you as much as you own it. The family's son grew up here, knows every quirk and creak of the place, and now runs the day-to-day operations alongside his father. The suites are named for the guests who made this building famous long before the Amorosos arrived: Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Amelia Earhart, Errol Flynn. The family has put over two million dollars into renovations without losing what the building is.
