PROPERTY DESCRIPTION
Hotel Ynez occupies a converted 1952 motor lodge in the heart of Solvang, the Danish-themed village in the Santa Ynez Valley, reimagined by Nomada Hotel Group as a modern, wine-country-focused boutique hotel that quietly subverts Solvang's kitschy tourist reputation. The design strips away the windmill-and-lederhosen aesthetic in favor of warm, earthy interiors that feel more Ojai or Marfa than Danish hamlet. The result is a hotel that works for wine tourists exploring Los Olivos and the Santa Ynez AVAs while offering something genuinely stylish in an unlikely setting.OWNER STORY
Hotel Ynez is the work of Nomada Hotel Group, a San Francisco-based company with a practice of rescuing mid-century California motor lodges before they disappear into conversion or neglect. The property they found in Solvang in 2019 was the Meadowlark Inn, a 1952 motor lodge on two private acres at the edge of the Danish village, dated but structurally sound. Nomada's renovation turned original parking spaces into private patios, opened the lobby with arches and skylights, and replaced the windmill-and-lederhosen aesthetic with warm, earthy interiors, a deliberate counterpoint to the town it sits in.
