A 1950s motor court reborn as a design-forward wine country destination, Skyview Los Alamos was transformed by Nomada Hotel Group into one of the most visually compelling properties on the Santa Barbara wine trail. Its mid-century bones, including low-slung buildings, a central pool, and carport-style parking, were preserved and refined with terrazzo floors, custom furniture, and a carefully considered palette of natural materials. The original 1959 roadside motel at Highway 101 and Bell Street fell vacant for years, acquiring the nickname Bates Motel among locals. Nomada Hotel Group acquired the property in 2016 and completed a full renovation, preserving the Googie bones, the yellow sign, and the cactus-carved carport columns while reinventing the interiors with globally sourced decor, terrazzo floors, and custom furniture. The property reopened as Skyview in 2018. The on-site restaurant is named Norman, and the working 2.5-acre vineyard produces the house rose.
