PROPERTY DESCRIPTION

Set on 115 acres of oak-studded meadows above the valley floor in Carmel Valley, The Camp is a genuine glamping experience designed to connect guests with the inland Monterey Peninsula that most visitors never see. Safari-style canvas tents are mounted on raised wooden platforms with full beds, wood-burning stoves, and outdoor showers, and communal gathering spaces encourage the kind of easy sociability that traditional hotels rarely produce. The property's organic garden, fire circle, and hiking trails into the surrounding hills make it feel less like a hotel and more like an invitation to slow down and stay outside.

OWNER STORY

The owner purchased The Camp at Carmel Valley in 2019, stepping in when Douglas Ranch Camps, a beloved youth camp institution on this 115-acre property for generations, faced an uncertain future. The mission was preservation as much as hospitality: keep the land intact, honor the history, and open it to a new kind of guest. What distinguishes The Camp from other properties in the same portfolio is its scale and deliberately unstructured character: 115 acres, communal meals, archery, tie-dye, campfires, and donkeys in the corral. A corporate group would have built a conference center here. Instead it was turned back into a camp.
