PROPERTY DESCRIPTION

Built in 1849 as a trading post during the California Gold Rush, the Groveland Hotel is one of California's oldest operating hotels, a two-story adobe and Victorian building at the edge of Yosemite's gateway town that wears its history openly. Original Gold Rush-era artifacts, period photographs, and antique furnishings fill the rooms and common spaces, and the Victorian saloon serves as a gathering point for hikers heading in or out of the park. The property is said to have its own resident ghost (Lylah, a miner's wife from the 1920s), and the building's age gives every stay a sense of place that design alone cannot replicate.

OWNER STORY

The Groveland Hotel has been a Gold Rush trading post, a gambling hall, a boarding house for Hetch Hetchy dam workers, and eventually a beloved inn on the direct route from the Bay Area to Yosemite. In 1990, a private owner rescued it from foreclosure and put million into restoration, placing the 1849 adobe and 1914 Victorian addition on the National Register of Historic Places. Serenite Hotels subsequently acquired the property and has continued that stewardship, reinvesting in the rooms and restaurant while keeping the building's Gold Rush bones intact.
