PROPERTY DESCRIPTION

A 20-room California beach house on the PCH, directly above one of the world's most storied surf breaks. Every room at The Surfrider faces First Point, the 1905 Malibu Pier, and the open Pacific. The 2017 rebuild stripped the 1953 motel to its bones and rebuilt it in reclaimed wood, hand-painted tile, and organic linen, materials chosen to age rather than impress. Custom longboards, hammocks, Grown Alchemist bath products, and morning coffee delivery come with every room. The guest-only rooftop bar is off-limits to anyone not staying here.

OWNER STORY

The Surfrider started as the Malibu Shores Motel in 1953, a gathering place for surfers and musicians who defined Malibu's counterculture. In 2017 it was rebuilt as a boutique hotel, stripped to its bones and reconstructed in reclaimed wood, hand-painted tile, and organic linen. It sold in 2021, then again in 2025 to Chrome Hearts, a Los Angeles luxury fashion brand founded in 1988, for whom the property is as much a brand statement as a hospitality investment. Casetta Group continues as brand and hospitality manager, maintaining the guest-only rooftop and the private beach house character the rebuild established.
